We all win when people who have had too much to drink stay out of their cars. The TMA has teamed up with a host of sponsors to establish an alternative ride home on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights between the hours of 9 pm and
2:30 am.
Anyone can use the service in San Luis Obispo by calling directly to the van driver's cellular phone at 235-SAFE. Rides are just $2 one way per person. The TMA hopes to make this program countywide through increased community support. Sponsoring bars pay $20 per month to receive vouchers which are honored by the driver for a free ride home for patrons of that establishment. Individuals can purchase an annual Safe Ride Home card for just $25 which gives them unlimited free rides home* during the Safe Ride hours. The Safe Ride van will pick you up from any location in San Luis Obispo, so make sure you carry the 235-SAFE phone number with you...just in case you need it one night. *When an annual pass is used, you can only go to the specified "Home" address listed on the card. Did you know? THE ANNUAL AFTER-TAX BUDGET FOR THE TYPICAL SLO COUNTY FAMILY FOR TRANSPORTATION (WHICH INCLUDES PLANES, TRAINS, BUSES AND CARS) IS $5,300. SOURCE: CALTRANS |
